Do I Qualify for Medicare Advantage? There is a lot to consider when it comes to choosing the right insurance plan. You’ll want to choose one that provides the coverage you’ll need and at the costs you can afford, but some plans come with certain criteria you must meet to qualify for such coverage. Medicare Advantage is one of those. Here is what you need to qualify for Medicare Advantage.

  • Qualify for other Medicare plans: One of the main qualifications to be eligible for Medicare Advantage coverage is that you must qualify for Medicare Parts A and B coverage. If you already have this coverage, it can be a good sign that you will also qualify for Medicare Advantage.
  • Be a working U.S. citizen: A main qualification for any form of Medicare is that you must be a U.S. citizen or a legal U.S. resident for at least five years, have worked for at least ten years, and have been paying Medicare taxes.
  • Be of age: As with any form of Medicare coverage, you must be 65 or older to qualify for Medicare Advantage coverage. If you are under the age of 65 and have received disability benefits, you may also qualify for Medicare Advantage coverage.
  • Don’t have supplemental insurance: One major qualification for Medicare Advantage coverage is that you must not have (or be willing to cancel) any supplemental insurance. Unlike the Medicare Parts A and B, supplemental insurance of any kind is unnecessary because most Medicare Advantage plans will offer all the coverage you need from basic medical needs to dental and even sometimes gym memberships.
